Business Intelligence
Textbook with Hans-Joachim Lenz, Springer Vieweg (2013)

The book treats business intelligence as a complete process: from data provisioning through data analysis and corporate performance management to information distribution.
Data provisioning is explained via data warehousing and big data, data analysis via OLAP and data mining. The management methods covered include forecasting, planning, controlling, monitoring, root-cause analysis, fraud detection, simulation and linear optimisation. Information is distributed through reporting, visualisation, mobile BI and dashboards.
Beyond successful applications and case studies, the focus is on understanding the underlying algorithms and data structures, which are essential for learning BI methods. The book was part of the habilitation-equivalent achievements recognised in my appointment at HWR Berlin. An earlier edited volume, Business Intelligence: Methods and Applications (with Veit Köppen, 2007), collected contributions from research and practice.
